Vince Press established Klauzál13 bookshop and gallery with the aims of strengthening the quality of visual culture and making it more recognized via the presentation of works of art. The exhibition area is designed in harmony with the traditions of the press, and it is created to serve as a live setting of visual arts. A central goal of Klauzál13 is to function as an organic part of the Jewish quarter’s life, to help its cultural life reemerge, and to keep spreading the traditions.

“Constructing the Jewish quarter” – presentation of Eszter B. Gantner

We have been dealing with the Jewish cultural scenes of several European cities since 2005. This emerged or perhaps created cultural scene usually evolves around certain historical buildings and presents itself in the forms of festivals, exhibitions, concerts, “semi-kosher” restaurants. Many times in cities where there are no more Jews left from the WWII. But is it necessary at all? Why is there suddenly a need for this, who and for what reason constructs this scene? To what extent does it count as “Jewish”? And who decides what “Jewish” means in this new context? These questions guide us in the attempt of defining this newly constructed Jewish cultural scene and the meaning of Jewish quarters.

András Szamek: Durchlaufwaschanlage exhibition opening

Open between 14 April – 14 May 2012

In the exhibition of András Szamek, you can enjoy works that are the living examples of the fact that the good photographer is not dependant on a good technical background. Yes, you can make photos like this with an iPhone, and you can create real art even in the times of over-photoshopped images.
